The school on modern mathematics in theoretical physics aims to foster collaboration between Mathematicians and Physicists working at the interface of the two disciplines. Interesting problems in fundamental theoretical physics are often related to interesting and new mathematics with both disciplines creating new research directions for the other. However it is often difficult for Physicists to access courses on the underlying mathematics, and for Mathematicians to access courses on physics to which the mathematics they study may have applications. To remedy this, and to encourage collaboration and the interchange of ideas between the two disciplines, particularly among young researchers, the school on modern mathematics in theoretical physics offers courses on mathematics with a final lecture devoted their applications to physics. The courses are suitable for both mathematicians and physicists. Short student presentations, and mentoring groups allow the participants to make contacts with both younger and more established regional and international researchers in both fields, leading to increased collaboration at the interface of mathematics and physics.

The school is aimed at researchers at any level, PhD students, Masters students and final year undergraduate students in Physics and Mathematics. Some funding will be available to cover the accommodation and travel expenses of students, and there is no registration fee due to the support of MCTP, CONACYT and UNACH.

This year there will be introductory lectures on Lie algebras (Paul Cook) and Differential geometry (José Figueroa-O'Farrill) which will be followed by the more advanced lectures:

The lectures will be given in English, whilst the mentor groups will take in to account proficiency in English and some may be held in Spanish. It is hoped that both English and Spanish lecture notes will be provided.
